Christopher Kong (No Rest for the Wicked)

I want to start this off with a confession.  I don’t read much fiction.  I work in technology so my usual reading is technical and related to my industry, anything to keep my relevant in my field.

But I was looking for something a little different, and when a friend of mine offered to loan me a copy of No Rest for the Wicked, I was intrigued enough to pick it up.

Why was I intrigued?

I honestly couldn’t guess the ending.

I’ve always had a knack for guessing the ending of movies and books, hence why I tend not to read much.  I never felt it was much the effort.

With No Rest for the Wicked on the other hand, I was honestly surprised.

Now, I did have a sense of what would happen, as there are numerous clues in the story that the author included to keep you wondering, but the way it was handled in its entirety was just enough to make it conclude in a very unexpected way.

Allow me to explain.

In the story the ex-con Nicolas Docrenzov moves to Los Angeles looking to start over.  After getting lucky and finding a job at a local strip club run by an Italian woman named Isabella., Nicolas thinks he’s well on his way to finding a new life, and maybe a little romance with Isabella.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t work out like that.

Soon a series of murders happen, with clues clearly tying all of the crimes to Nicolas’ past.  On top of that, there’s this constant sense of danger as a mysterious man with silver hair and eyes following Nicolas around and pulling strings to complicate his life.

As the media frenzy grows, the suspicions of the city as further directed at Nicolas until everything explodes.

Considering I enjoyed the ending so much, I don’t want to ruin it, so I’m just going to say one more thing.

Read the book.  You will not be disappointed.
