Jason Vankos (No Rest for the Wicked)

So I wasn’t really sure what to expect when Vin gave me the advanced copy of his book.  I mean, I’d worked with him for a years and I’d known just by being around him that he was a writer, but we never really talked about his work in any detail.  Knowing him, I wouldn’t be surprised that he did it on purpose to keep me curious.

Either way, once the advanced copy came out a few months ago I was eager to get my hands on it.  Despite taking a while to actually sit and read the book due to just having a newborn child, I must say that once I let myself get into the story I was hooked.

What originally seemed to be a standard crime novel set in Los Angeles with a little redemption and romance thrown in for an ex-con, the main character Nicolas Docrenzov, the book was definitely taken to the next level with the supernatural element thrown in.

I don’t want to give away anymore about the story, but my favorite part above all was the general sense of tension bearing down on the characters at all time, that only seemed to ramp up with every page I turned until it finally exploded across, not only the city of Los Angeles, but the character’s lives as well.

Whether it’s the crime drama, romance, or supernatural elements that peak your interest, No Rest for the Wicked will definitely keep you entertained all the way until the last page.
